A NEW ARRIVAL!

We're getting a new Yorkie in our family! After much hunting this weekend, I think we have found a very nice male to bring into our home!

There is much debate about Male Yorkies vs. Female Yorkies an I found this good information online....let me know if you agree....







Over at Elvis Yorkies, they said, " Many people feel that female yorkies make better pets than male yorkies. This conclusion is usually based upon inaccurate information. In discussing these differences we will be speaking in terms of generalizations. These generalizations of female and male yorkies traits are like that of generalizations of female and male human traits. For every generalization there are always exceptions.

Female yorkies are sweeter and more affectionate that male yorkies.

Our experience is that male yorkies are usually more affectionate, exuberant, and attentive as compared to females. They seek your attention and are very attached to their people. They also tend to be more steadfast, reliable, and less moody. They are more outgoing, more accepting of other pets, and take quicker to children. When we have company we invariably have to put the females in another room until the company leaves. The female may be less likely to wage a dominance battle with you, but she can be cunning and resourceful in getting her own way. She is much more prone to mood swings. Most females will usually come to you for attention, but as soon as she has had enough, she will move away. Males are always waiting for your attention and close by.

Female yorkies are more docile as compared to male yorkies.

In the dog pack framework, females usually rule the roost. Therefore they determine pecking order, and compete to maintain and/or alter that order. The females are, as a result, more independent, stubborn, and territorial than their male counterparts. Most fights will usually break out between two females.

Female yorkies are easier to train than male yorkies.

Because female yorkies are, more independent, stubborn, territorial and male yorkies are easily motivated by praise, and are very eager to please, training a male can be easier than training a female. However, males can be easily distracted during training, as they just want to get to playtime!"

SCHMITTY - THE REAL NEW YORKIE - YORKSHIRE TERRIER

Elly McGuire and her yorkie Schmitty were deeply touched by 911.

It all started because every day Schmitty would pass by Ladder Co. #25 on her way to Central Park to run and play. The firehouse was a 1/2 block away from where she lived. The firemen always petted Schmitty and gave her treats. One day, some of the firemen were not there anymore. Instead there were all these flowers and candles in front of the station and a lot of people just staring and crying and hugging each other.

Schmitty was so sad. She just couldn't sit still. She's a terrier, remember? Schmitty just had to do something! She couldn't give blood and was too small to try and help in the "big dog" rescue efforts. Schmity knew she could make people smile, even through their tears. So, she went to a studio near Union Square and posed for some pictures . . . some patriotic, some sentimental, and some just plain silly. A very creative friend, David, who works for an ad agency in Boston, helped put together some greeting cards from the fun pictures. Another friend, Chad from Los Angeles, helped design Schmitty's website. All the profits from her cards went to the Uniformed Firefighters Association Scholarship Fund.

Schmitty's giving back has snowballed into new projects and products. And a portion of the proceeds from Schmitty's new products including her new line of "New Yorkie" people & pooch apparel goes to her foundation, DOGS WHO CARE

and other charities. DOGS WHO CARE, was created to raise money for animals across the country who were displaced and became homeless by disasters like the 2005 hurricanes and now everyday life. Schmitty and her efforts have been featured on ELLEN, ACCESS HOLLYWOOD and even has a MYSPACE PAGE!

I just have to give a big shout out to all my readers and fans from around the world! - With THANKSGIVING right around the corner next week, I have a lot to be thankful for. As some of you know, I went in for a second cataracts surgery. (I had one done last year, and it was not 100% successful but I can still see , it's just a little blurry eyed...) Unfortunately, this one was not 100% successful either. They could not get the lens on my eye properly. So now I am blurry eyed in both eyes! - But I am thankful I am not totally blind. I still get around pretty good for an old gal of 13!





But I am thankful for my life, my family, and my friends.

I Hate Giving My Yorkie A Bath

I don't know about you, but I HATE getting a bath! I hate getting wet! When it is raining outside, I certainly do not want to go out and get my feet wet! My daddy tried putting booties on me once, but I wasn't thrilled with that either!

Dogs should be kept on a regular schedule of washing. This is important to prevent skin and odor problems. It is also important to use a dog shampoo because it is formulated for a dog’s skin. Here are some steps to follow when it comes to washing your dog.

The frequency of washing depends on the climate and breed of the dog. Generally speaking dogs should be washed once a week during the summer, once every two to three weeks in the spring and fall, and about once a month in the winter. This schedule is meant for healthy dogs and may vary if your dog has skin or health problems. It is best to check with your veterinarian if this is the case. Always always always rinse the coat well to remove all shampoo residue. Great dog shampoos can be found at PET CARE and Petco.

He weighs 4 pounds, which is just perfect for

his career in front of the camera. Rock is a fashion model.

(they're Swedish) advertisements, being toted

in a shoulder bag by a leggy model. He's also been

in a music video with the English singer

Chicane ("Come Tomorrow"), but his second

video opportunity, with the Jonas Brothers,

was derailed by his move to Virginia.

Producer Clark Moffat, who just loves to cast

Rock because of the cute factor - yes, that's exactly

what he said - described the first fashion campaign

as young and hip Hollywood, "the kind of clothes

celebrities and the trendy would wear every day."

So in the casting call, if you can believe that something

as cute as Rock would just walk in off the street, his

friendly face and beautiful coat made him ideal.

Rock is very patient and calm and he smiles

with these little tiny teeth showing and he pricks

his big ears forward to listen and he can look up,

yes, right on cue. The producer calls

him "the perfect L.A. accoutrement."

But Rock's not in L.A. anymore; he's in Virginia Beach.

His owner, Greg Carr, just got a four-year medical

residency in Hampton Roads, so Rock is, shall

we say, unbusy. The thousands he made as

a model? No longer rolling into the bank.
He's the most available male you can meet right

now, darling, so if you need a pocket pup for just

anything decent in the modeling line,

have your people contact his people!

Dressing up Yorkies For Halloween

Is it wrong to dress up little dogs in cute clothes?

Some dogs get dressed up just for Halloween.

Experts say the answer lies with the individual pet.

Some dogs seem to like it - others do not.

Make sure costumes do not impede the pet's movements,

breathing or sight. And it's a good idea to not leave a dog

alone in costume - they could try pulling it off and injure themselves.

BEWARE of candy also on Halloween.

As everyone knows, chocolate can be deadly.

And small pieces of candy laying around can be trouble.

As I approach my 15th birthday they now

tell me I have ANOTHER cataract, in my OTHER EYE!

The first surgery was not 100% successful and my

vision is blurry in that eye, like looking through a windsheild

in the rain. So I don't know what to do....we may wait

till after the holidays to decide.

Halloween kicks off the holiday season. And it's

not just for adults anymore!

Britney May Lose Custody of Yorkie

Britney Spears' Yorkshire Terrier may have to be taken into protective custody by the American animal rights group PETA.

Britney, who has been squeezing the dog very tightly in the last few days, seems to be having trouble composing herself in public. This may have something to do with losing custody of her children to her ex-husband a few days ago for being a bad mother.

Yesterday, whilst in Starbucks picking up a Frappucino, she was seen squeezing the poor mutt so tight that its poor little tongue was hanging out and its eyes seemed to bulge out of its little head. When a photographer brought this to Britney's attention, she finally relaxed her grip and continued snorting the Frappucino with the straw.

The dog has tried to escape the clutches of Britney a few times, but is always recaptured by her driver or bodyguard and then handed shivering back to its tormentor.

Some people in the crowds waiting to see Britney have taken to urging the poor dog to escape by shouting "Run, Toto, Run!"

Ex-husband Kevin Federline has been contacted by the animal welfare group, pleading with the wanna-be rapper to take responsibility of the fallen pop star's chihuahua, maltese and yorkshire terrier as well.

Bobby is back!

The 17-year-old Yorkshire terrier, snatched from owner Bill Hardy's yard in Michigan last weekend, was rescued by two women who took the dog to a veterinarian's office Wednesday morning.

"He knew me when I picked him up,"

Hardy said. "He gave me a kiss."

The 6-pound dog, which has one rear leg that drags and is missing teeth, didn't have any obvious injuries from his ordeal, Hardy said. But Hardy said he planned to take Bobby to the veterinarian for a check-up.

"He seems to be a little bit shook up," Hardy said.

The two women who rescued Bobby saw him being tossed back and forth between two young people who were walking on the street, Hardy said. But Hardy said he had not yet talked to the women and didn't know where they found his dog.

Hardy said he was told the women ordered the young people to give them the dog or they would call police. They took Bobby to the veterinarian's office, where someone called Hardy.

Bobby went missing Saturday during a garage sale at Hardy's home. He said he believes three teenage boys were involved, and one of the boys distracted Hardy by asking about a lamp while the other two took the dog.

Based on a statement from one of the boys, they may have believed the dog was valuable, Hardy said.

Hardy said he would like to pursue criminal prosecution if he can find out who took his dog. But for now, he's just glad to have Bobby back.

"He's my best friend," Hardy said.

The Economy May be Bad, but Pets Receive the Best of Everything

They say it's a dog's life, and for Obi, a sweet-faced Yorkshire terrier, it's hard to imagine life being much sweeter than this, according to the INDY STAR. The 2-year-old gets a regular wash and trim -- complete with plum-scented shampoo and all-natural conditioner -- from an at-home dog-grooming service.

"He's like a kid I can't write off," owner Peter Renai jokes.

Pet lovers like the Renai family of Pike Creek, Del., are fueling an explosion in spending on pets that runs the gamut from aromatherapy to hip replacements.

The American Pet Products Manufacturers Association forecasts Americans will spend $40.8 billion on their pets this year, nearly double the $21 billion dished out in 1996. This year's tab will include $16.1 billion for food, $9.9 billion for supplies and over-the-counter medication and $9.8 billion for veterinary care.

Pet ownership is at an all-time high, with 71.1 million households in the U.S., or 63 percent, owning at least one animal, the group says. Those numbers have caught the attention of financial analysts.

Cox predicts that the increasing number of pet owners paying for expensive medical treatments will spur an increase in the number of health insurance policies for pets. Less than 5 percent of owners now carry pet insurance, he said.

Whiskazz and Pawzz, in Hockessin, Del., sells gluten-free dog food, dog treats and pet-themed art work. Since the store opened five years ago, there's been a huge increase in the variety of pet-related products on the market, said owner Alyce Duffy, a retired corporate executive.

Duffy says owners aren't shy about indulging their pets because they provide the "loyalty and unconditional love" that don't always come from people.

"They're there for you," says Duffy, whose 9-year-old beagle, Cappi, has the run of the store!

Lots of Kansas Dogs Needs Homes Now

A man sits on a bench in the shade next to a cage holding two gray feral kittens. A few feet away, another man holds onto a leash connected to a big brindle dog. Among the half-dozen animals awaiting their fate is an obviously pregnant Yorkshire terrier mix whose owner is relinquishing her to the shelter.

The animals are among 62 dogs and cats that will be admitted to the Humane Society on a day that also will see 18 pets adopted to new homes and 24 euthanized.

Admissions is the first stop for animals entering the shelter, which takes in more than 14,000 dogs, cats and other small pets a year. It's where the decision process begins on which animals will be offered for adoption and which won't.

Forty-three staff members carry out the Humane Society's mission: caring for animals and finding new homes for them. The shelter also relies on a pool of about 250 volunteers.

The Kansas City Humane Society is a nonprofit organization that receives no government or United Way funding and depends on adoption fees, private donations and fundraisers.

This Yorkie is a Snappy Dresser!

Although he is small in stature,

Hattiesburg, MS, resident Deuce has

tremendous style. Deuce, a 6-pound

Yorkshire terrier, is known for his fashionable

clothing and precious accessories. Deuce's owner,

Amanda Foster, said he has had style since the

moment she picked him up in Mobile, Ala.
"When I got him, we went straight to PetSmart

when we got home and bought him a shirt," Foster said.

Foster's love of fashion for Deuce has only

blossomed over the nine months he has been a member of her family.
Foster said Deuce currently has a large

wardrobe that consists of T-shirts, polo shirts

and a rhinestone collar with a heart-shaped

identification charm dangling from it.

"He gets a lot of compliments on his clothes,"

Foster said. "I think he knows he is wearing

clothes and that people can see him. When he is

dressed up, he likes to be on the counter at the

store so people can see him. When he is

not dressed up, he likes to hide."

Yorkie is BEST FRIEND!

Poindexter, a four and a half pound,

seven year old Yorkshire Terrier,

never took his eyes off of his owner,

Megan Levise, as she worked out at Curves last

Thursday morning. He sat on a red fleece

blanket under a bench and watched every move

Levise made. When others cooed over the cute

puppy, he stayed put, obediently

following the last command.

Dexter is a working animal,

a Heart Service Dog. When Levise says

"stay," Dexter stays until told otherwise.

There is one exception to the rule.

When Levise starts to have difficulty with

her heart or breathing,

Dexter is immediately at her side.

Dexter's training as a Heart Service Dog

began when he was just a tiny one pound

puppy, fitting into the palm of Levise's hand.

He went through the Canine Good Citizen

Test which required him to accomplish such

tasks as walking through a crowd and

behaving properly around another dog.

Dexter is the perfect dog, Levise said,

especially for someone with her particular

disability. First he is easy to pick up and handle.

Second, his hair is hypoallergenic and doesn't

produce the dander that causes allergies.

Third, his small size allows him to travel easier

and be with Levise without being a distraction to others.

Leona Helmsley Leaves $12 million to Maltese

Famed hotelier Leona Helmsley,

who died Aug. 20, left her dog

Trouble $12 million in her will.

Two of her grandchildren got nothing.

Here, she holds the dog in 2003.

Helmsley left her beloved white Maltese, named Trouble,

a $12 million trust fund, according to her will,

which was made public this week.

"I direct that when my dog, Trouble, dies,

her remains shall be buried next to my remains

in the Helmsley mausoleum," Helmsley wrote in her will.

Pop Princess Britney Spears

came under attack last from the

Humane Society, when she ran into

a pet store and purchased a $3000

yorkie puppy named London, after

just 30 minutes.....The Humane Society

suggested she didn't give the purchase enough thought.

This week, Spears has given her first interview

since leaving rehab - and it all went terribly wrong.

Sources claim it was 'nothing less than a meltdown'.

Arriving for the photoshoot at a Hollywood mansion,

Britney, 25, is alleged to have been 'completely out of it',

at one point suggesting that the ceiling was about

to cave in. Rather than use the

professional make-up artist, it's claimed

that she insisted on doing her own make-up

which looked smeared and badly applied.

During the shoot, she ordered fried chicken

and afterwards allegedly wiped her hands on an

expensive Gucci dress. 'Britney was in a shocking state,'

a source claims in the Sun. 'She was babbling incoherently,

talking in baby talk. She didn't make sense.'

It's also alleged the singer used a Chanel dress to wipe

up the mess her new Yorkshire Terrier puppy

left when it relieved itself on the floor.

PARIS HILTON AND LONDON

Paris Hilton and Britney Spears are no

longer hanging out together on the Hollywood

club scene, but the 26-year-olds seem to be still

in sync in other ways - recently having both

become mum to a tiny Yorkshire Terrier.

Paris, whose new pup is reportedly called Cinderella,

had hugs galore for the miniature Yorkie,

which sported its own doggie bikini as it

hung out with its famous owner on Malibu beach.

The latest addition to Britney's family, meanwhile,

arrived on Friday after the singer made a visit to

Pets of Bel Air. There she splashed out £1,500

on a mini Yorkie who she has dubbed London.

The mum-of-two, who bought a parakeet last

month, has been inseparable from her new

four-legged friend ever since, taking him along to a

dance studio and on a night out in LA. Cinderella

and London weren't the only pooches getting

A-list affection over the weekend. A host of stars,

including sisters Haylie and Hilary Duff - who had their

hands full with one canine guest - turned out for the

Bow Wow Wow fundraiser in Bel Air. The annual event

is hosted in support of the Much Love Animal Rescue shelter.

Dog Days of Summer Safety

Each year, more than 10 million pets in America

become lost, and summer can be the most dangerous

time for pets. Whether escaping from yards, running away

after Independence Day fireworks or being displaced

due to seasonal natural disasters like hurricanes and

floods, summer is a dangerous time for pets to be outside.

In fact, July 5 has been pinpointed as the day of the year

when the most lost pets end up at shelters, according

to the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS).

An estimated one in three pets will get lost in its lifetime,

and without proper identification,

90 percent of lost pets never return home.

HOME AGAIN is encouraging millions of dog and cat

owners nationwide to ensure their pets' safety

through microchipping and enrolling in a recovery database.

Independence Day Dangers:

Most pet owners can attest to the fact that

fireworks frazzle their pets.

Don't leave your dog or cat outside when

your city or town will be conducting fireworks

displays or a July 4 parade,

and ensure your pet has a cozy spot indoors where

they won't be tempted to run away.

Everyday Warm Weather Awareness:

No matter where they live, pet owners

should be aware that normal outdoor distractions,

such as birds and squirrels, increased outdoor

neighborhood activity and even seasonal

weather disturbances like thunderstorms

can cause pets to run away.

Pets should never be left alone outside,

even if they are in a fenced area.
