Yorkshire Terrier is Mans Best Friend

Dogs have always been great, friendly companions, hence the Man’s Best Friend title, but nothing comes close to the valuable help provided by a Yorkshire Terrier named Maisie, (NOT pictured) who recently alerted an owner that his house was up in flames. The canine managed to use initiative to run to the location of the owner and encourage him to come home and find help for the situation.


Last week at approximately 6pm in the evening, Maisie noticed flames and smoke bellowing from a house in Limes Road, (in the UK) . Mr. Whitmore, the owner of the house resides there with some lodgers, as well as his wife and children. At the time of the incident, Mr. Whitmore was in his local sports and social club, before he was greeted by Maisie, smelling of smoke.

Maisie impressed local neighbours after running a total of 350 yards from the burning building to the local sports and social club. Maisie was in the kitchen of the building when the blaze started, which is said to have begun as a result of something being cooked on the hob. When Mr. Whitmore was alerted of the incident, he called fire fighters.

An hour after the beginning of the fire, the fire department put the fire out with the use of breathing equipment. Thankfully, due to the Yorkshire Terrier’s fast reaction, no one was hurt in the process. Although the bottom floor of Mr. Whitmore’s house was badly affected by smoke, it appears that only the kitchen really experienced the majority of damage from flames.

The actual dog chosen as the Next Top Dog Model’s owner will receive a grand prize package that will be sure to make those tails start wagging.

LUCY Smallest Working Dog on the Planet - A Yorkie!

A mini Yorkshire terrier from New Jersey is now in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Tiny "Lucy," who weighs just 2 1/2 pounds, was named the world's smallest working dog last week, bumping out a 6.6-pound police dog in Japan.

She was headed for an animal shelter two years ago when a woman brought her into the Paw Dazzle pet boutique in Smithville. This dog was almost HOMELESS! Who could not love that face?? How can people give up their dogs to a shelter?? I think it is THEIR responsibility, to find that dog a new home!

Shop owner Sally Leone Montufar decided to keep her. She tells The Courier-Post of Cherry Hill the Yorkie was lethargic then. But Lucy was brought back to health and has been trained for her therapy work. She visits hospitals, nursing homes and special schools, often wearing dresses and bonnets.

A Tiger and Her Baby Pigs

In a zoo in California , a mother tiger gave birth
to a rare set of triplet tiger cubs.
Unfortunately, Due to complications in the pregnancy,
the cubs were born prematurely
and due to their tiny size,
they died shortly after birth.


The mother tiger after recovering from the delivery,
suddenly started to decline in health,
Although physically she was fine.
The veterinarians felt that the loss of her litter
had caused the tigress to fall into a depression.
The doctors decided
that if the tigress could surrogate
another mother's cubs,
perhaps she would improve.


After checking with many other zoos across the country,
the depressing news was that there were no tiger cubs
of the right age to introduce to the mourning mother..
The veterinarians decided to try something
that had never been tried in a zoo environment.
Sometimes a mother of one species
will take on the care of a different species.



The only orphans' that could be found quickly,
were a litter of weanling pigs.

The zoo keepers and vets
wrapped the piglets in tiger skin
and placed the babies around the mother tiger...



The Tiger took them immediately! And her health improved!
This has been in several zoo's, where a tiger raises piglets.

I JUST DON'T GET IT!

How can someone be SO ABUSIVE?

I try not to post anything depressing or sad on this site. Because I read lots of horrific abusive stories - unspeakable acts you can not even imagine - and I just refuse to post them. It's too sad.

Today this story came across my desk- and I will not post the video - because it is too graphic - but this woman is SICK. This made me sob.

A Brazilian nurse, who is married to a doctor, was caught on camera repeatedly attacking a yorkie, which later died of its injuries. When Police refused to take action, the neighbor who shot the video, posted it on YouTube. The nurse now has gone into hiding after receiving 40,000 threats! Her apartment block was surrounded by a mob throwing stones. There have even been people offering money for someone to kill her.

After a national outcry, an investigation was quickly launched, and hundreds of thousands have joined Facebook groups or signed an online petition demanding that the 22-year-old be brought to justice.

When officers arrived at de Moura's home she reportedly tried to explain her actions by saying she was ‘having a bad day, going through some family problems and an attack of nerves.’ - ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? You throw and beat and abuse a helpless animal, cause you're having a bad day! She should be JAILED!

A police spokesman said the investigation is expected to conclude on Wednesday and could result in de Moura being sentenced to up to a year in prison for animal cruelty.

The brutal attack was witnessed by a child, so she could also be charged under the Children's Act for 'exposing a child to shame or embarrassment, the maximum penalty for which is three years behind bars,' he added.

This is so sad. And so sickening.

Trixie Lee and Coco Chanel Holiday Gathering

This past weekend I was in Michigan, and got to visit Miss Coco Chanel - the Yorkie who started this blog, about 6 years ago.

Miss Coco is about 17 years old now, and not doing real well. She is pretty much blind, and deaf, and has a hard time getting around. But it was so nice to see her and visit. Her house was a glorious display of Holiday Magic! - I got a new holiday t-shirt!!





The shots below are of Coco. She does not seem to be in any pain - her doctor says she is still very healthy! But you can tell her quality of life is not what it used to be. I wish she would play with me - but she just is not up for that. She is such a sweetheart! I just want to snuggle with her and hold her.





After a few hours of visiting, we had to head back home, and I was pretty tired out!
In just a few days, Christmas will be here. I can't wait!

Bergdorf Goodmans Holiday Dog Video UNLEASHED

To me, Bergdorf Goodman is one of the greatest stores - with the greatest holiday windows in New York City.

Last year they gave us a sneak peak behind the scenes look at how their amazing windows come to life.

This year, they have created a wonderful little video with a cast of dogs! UNLEASHED.

The Holiday Windows are up, lights are hanging on Fifth Avenue, and there’s a line at the airport — it must be time for our holiday video. “Unleashed” is here and it’s ready to rumble around the internet. BG has always been a dog-friendly store but for “Unleashed” we got downright intimate. Dogs had free run through the store (the filming took place at 5am) and as you’ll see, they took full advantage.

We were very happy to work with the Humane Society of New York, which has been helping animals in need since 1904. We hope you enjoy it — and we want to see photos of your dogs for an upcoming project, so start planning your portraits.

If you use a smart phone, chances are you are using QR technology. The code usually consists of black modules arranged in a square pattern on a white background. The information encoded can be made up of any kind of data.

Male Yorkie in the Neighborhood

While out walking this summer, I noticed a new Yorkie in my neighborhood! His name is Dodger! And even though my daddies think I have no interest in male dogs, something about Dodger gets me all hot and bothered! He is scruffy and sexy! - With winter coming, I don't get out much....so we may not see each other til next spring :-(

Chicken jerky treats may be Linked to Mysterious Dog Illness and Deaths

Chicken jerky treats may be to blame for dozens of new reports of mysterious illnesses and some deaths in dogs, prompting a renewed warning for pet owners by the Food and Drug Administration.

At least 70 dogs have been sickened so far this year after reportedly eating chicken jerky products imported from China, (as many products are, these days) FDA officials said. That’s up from 54 reports of illness in 2010. Some of the dogs have died, according to the anecdotal reports from pet owners and veterinarians. - But sadly, the report does not mention any brand names.

We have given our little Trixie DOGSWELL, Happy Hips Chicken Breast for 3 years now - with no issues.

The bag says made with cage free chicken, no hormones, no antibiotics, no fillers and no byproducts. But who knows ...is this really regulated?

I called Dogswell for a comment - a spokesperson for the company said they were aware of the article - but promise, "their products are safe and tested by third party labs in the US - to make sure their products are safe and the ingredients are what they claim they say to be - they also conduct unannounced factory visits in China, to make the facility is up to FDA standards. "

Dogswell have never been involved in any recalls or unsatisfactory reports.

McDonalds Cruelty to Chickens

A new Mercy For Animals undercover investigation, which just broke on Good Morning America, and will be featured this evening on ABC World News Tonight with Diane Sawyer and then profiled on 20/20, gives a never before seen look inside a McDonald's egg supplier - exposing the fast-food giant's secret ingredient: shocking cruelty to animals.
Hidden-camera footage, taken at Sparboe Egg Farm facilities in Iowa, Minnesota and Colorado, reveals:

Hens crammed into filthy wire cages with less space for each bird than a standard-sized sheet of paper to live her entire miserable life, unable to fully stretch her wings or engage in most other natural behaviors

Workers burning off the beaks of young chicks without any painkillers and callously throwing them into cages, some missing the cage doors and hitting the floor

Rotted hens, decomposed beyond recognition as birds, left in cages with hens still laying eggs for human consumption

A worker tormenting a bird by swinging her around in the air while her legs were caught in a grabbing device - violence described as "torture" by another worker

Chicks trapped and mangled in cage wire - others suffering from open wounds and torn beaks
Live chicks thrown into plastic bags to be suffocated

Veterinarians and animal welfare experts confirm what common sense already tells us: Egg-laying hens, like all animals, should be given the freedom to walk, stretch their limbs, turn around and engage in natural behaviors. Yet, this McDonald's supplier deprives hens of even these most basic freedoms.

Barren battery cages are so cruel that the entire European Union and the states of California and Michigan have banned their use. Additionally, leading food retailers, such as Whole Foods, Hellmann's, Wolfgang Puck and Subway, and hundreds of colleges and universities refuse to use or sell eggs from hens subjected to the inherent abuses of battery cages.

But Not McDonalds.

Sadly, not a single federal law currently provides any protection to birds at the hatchery, on the factory farm, or during slaughter. Further, most states - including those in which this investigation was conducted - have sweeping exemptions for farmed animals, which allow abuses to run rampant without prosecution.

Worst Pet Food Brands for your Dog

Pet owners should know how to read nutritional labels.

But nutritional labels and ingredient labels ARE SO IMPORTANT! If you don't know, the words "by-products" are something you want to avoid in your pets food. What are "by-products" ? You Ask? You don't really want to know, trust me! But you don't want ANY FOOD that contains "by-products." By-Products are not fit for human consumption - so do you want your dog eating them??

Before I show you the names, know that at one time, some of these companies had THE BEST pet foods. Then the compnies were sold and the ingredients altered, so now they are on the WORST list. They focused on marketing the pet food rather than concentrate on keeping the original high quality ingredient that it had.

-IAMS Dog Food
-Alpo Dog Food
-Pedigree Dog Food
-Kibbles 'n Bits
-Purina One

here are just some of the ingredients that some of the pet foods listed use, that are bad for dogs;

BHA (butylated hydroxyanisole) and BHT (butylated hydroxytolulene) which is known to cause liver and kidney problems

Ethoxyquin which is one of the ingredients that is suspected to cause cancer.

Propylene glycol is an ingredient that can causes problems for our dog’s red blood cells.

I have been told Royal Canin for Yorkies is a great food. But it does contain some corn and gluten. (which is not great). Others brands I have been reccommended include Blue Buffalo Wilderness, Life's Abundance has all natural human grade ingredients and NOTHING bad in it, Merrick is also rated very good. Evangers is really good and all natural meats and gravy.

There is a site called DOG FOOD ANALYSIS, that rates food. ARTEMIS comes up on top. And many of these companies WILL SEND YOU A FREE SAMPLE, if you want to try it.


So lets eat! What's for dinner?!

911 Dog Hero? The James Crane Story

ALLEGEDLY - James Crane worked on the 101st floor of Tower 1 of the World Trade Center .. He is blind so he has a golden retriever named Daisy.

After the plane hit 20 stories below, James knew that he was doomed, so he let Daisy go, out of an act of love. She darted away into the darkened hallway.

Choking on the fumes of the jet fuel and the smoke James was just waiting to die. About 30 minutes later, Daisy comes back along with James' boss,
Who Daisy just happened to pick up on floor 112. (?) I thought there were only 110 floors....



On her first run of the building, she leads James, James' boss, and about 300 more people out of the doomed building.

But she wasn't through yet, she knew there were others who were trapped. So, highly against James' wishes she ran back in the building. On her second run, she saved 392 lives. Again she went back in. During this run, the building collapses. James hears about this and falls on his knees into tears.

Against all known odds, Daisy makes it out alive, but this time she is carried by a firefighter. "She led us right to the people, before she got injured" the fireman explained. Her final run saved another 273 lives. She suffered acute smoke inhalation, severe burns on all four paws, and a broken leg, but she saved 967 lives. Daisy is the first civilian Canine to win the Medal of Honor of New York City.

It's a tear jerker - but is it true?

This email circulated right after the tragic 911 day. And it has resurfaced. Try as I might, I have not been able to locate a single published news story mentioning a World Trade Center survivor named James Crane. And though there were indeed many canine heroes who participated in rescue operations at Ground Zero after the September 11 terrorist attack, I could find no golden retriever named Daisy listed among them.

ALL THAT SAID, there were at least four real-life examples of guide dogs escorting their blind owners out of the burning twin towers to safety. Roselle, a Labrador retriever, led Michael Hingson down from the 78th floor of the north tower and to the home of a friend several blocks away. Dorado, also a Labrador, guided Omar Rivera down 70 flights of stairs, an ordeal that lasted over an hour but ended with both man and dog a safe distance from the towers when they collapsed. - also - "Salty" another guide dog, was also awarded the medal for guiding his owner from the WTC. New York Police dog, "Appollo" was another to receive the medal on behalf of Ground Zero Search and Rescue dogs. Although these animal heroes helped to save lives on 9/11, none of them repeatedly returned alone to the building to lead hundreds of people to safety.

UK Site May Help Find Missing Dogs

DOG loving Jill Neary has devoted herself to reuniting pooch owners with their lost pets... after turning internet sleuth to track down her own beloved Yorkshire Terrier.

Jill was heartbroken when her dog Indy went missing. And, after a five-week hunt that involved tip-offs and sightings posted on a Facebook page she set up, she was reunited with him.

Now she hopes her story will inspire others never to give up, and also that the website she set up on Facebook will leave a lasting legacy helping to reunite other owners with their dogs.

Even though Indy has now been found Jill’s page www.helpfindindy.co.uk has more than 1,100 fans.

And innovative techniques including sighting maps of any spotted stray dogs and places to upload missing posters have already helped others to track down their pets.
