Yorkie Terrier Rescue Saves Woman
A rescue Terrier mix dog who saves a woman's life, by jumping on her chest!
One night, while waiting for the surgery, I had another spell but this time, when I came to, I found Ranger on my chest. All of a sudden I realized where the bruises had been coming from: Ranger was jumping up and down on me when my heart delayed restarting.
Ranger would repeat this act several times before I was finally able to clear my body of blood thinners and get my pacemaker. I had saved Ranger’s life, and he, in return, had saved mine — many times over.
Sometimes, when I try to be helpful, it seems my efforts are all in vain.
When that happens, I wonder why I even bother to try. Then, I remember Ranger and I know I have to keep trying because sometimes miracles can occur!

Smoky Yorkie Doodle Dandy
Bill sent this clipping to me today. Photographed when Smoky made an appearance in Chicago at the Anti Cruelty Society in May of 1946.
The Cleveland Metroparks developed a spectacular setting for a memorial, dedicated to Smoky the war-dog hero, of World War II.
A circular, dark-pink patio is surrounded by lawn and greenery. Already, as a sentinel at attention, stands a gleaming, aluminum flagpole, posted in the former plain of trees and grass.
An expanded parking lot, paved and marked, provides easy access to visitors. Alongside the memorial site, is a multi-purpose trail, designed for walkers, cyclists and joggers.
The Smoky and Dogs of All Wars Memorial is located on Valley Parkway, in the Rocky Reservation of The Cleveland Metroparks, Lakewood, Ohio — 1.25 miles south of the Detroit Avenue Bridge entrance to The Metroparks.
Bill has two Yorkies these days and keeps up a blog, Yorkie Doodle Dandy!

Yorkie Doodle Dandy author Meets Lucy, a tiny, tiny Yorkie!
The legend and legacy of a small dog continue to grow, 55 years after her death.
Smoky, a Yorkshire terrier, became a 4-pound prodigy after an American GI found her in a New Guinea foxhole in 1944. She is recognized as one of the first therapy dogs in the world.
The Cleveland man who brought her home from the war got to meet a New Jersey yorkie on Wednesday who has been recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records in November as the smallest working dog in the world.
The man is William A. Wynne, a retired Plain Dealer photographer, who bought Smoky from another soldier for $6.44. The record setter is Lucy, who she weighs 2.5 pounds. She is also a therapy dog. Her owner, Sally Leone of Absecon, N.J. trained her after she intercepted Lucy on the way to a dog shelter.

Yorkie Mom Raises New Born Kittens
From Utah - Bridget is a 10 -year-old Yorkshire terrier that was surrendered to the Humane Society of Utah last week. She was pregnant, and just days later gave birth to 2 pups, but they did not survive.
Later that day kittens arrived at the shelter.
The next morning when doctors came to check on both of their new patients, those patients had found each other. All five kittens, nestled under Bridget's caring fur and watchful eye ... she had become a mother after all.
"I haven't seen anything like that before, it was really just quite exciting, really quite touching," Van Zandt said.
And so, since Monday, this 10-year-old dog has been doing all of the usual 'new mom' activities for this litter of five kittens. She's been cleaning, chasing and even feeding her adoptive babies.

Does Your Dog Know When They Have Bad Haircuts?
2 hours later I got my baby back with an AWFUL haircut - and even the dog knew it! All day she moped around the house - and today she has not been usual self. It's like she has no confidence - her personality is deflated.
Do you thinks dogs know when they have a bad haircut? or maybe it's just so short - she's feels different?

UK Yorkie from West Yorkshire Barks and Barks to Help Save Neighbor
A Yorkshire Terrier has been praised for raising the alarm after an elderly neighbour collapsed in her garden in the dark.
Brian Hullah, 62, said he had no idea how his five-year-old dog Bella knew Rita Butler had collapsed but he said if the dog had not alerted him she could have been there all night.
Mr Hullah said Bella, usually a quiet dog, started barking in the kitchen at about 9pm on Sunday.
He said: “She was going a bit berserk. She’s usually pretty quiet, so we thought there must have been a cat or something out there.
“I opened the door and she shot out and she was running up and down the side of the fence barking.”
Mr Hullah said his stepson Andrew White went through the gate into their neighbour’s garden and found the pensioner, believed to be about 80, laid on the ground under some bushes.
How could the dog possibly sense something was wrong with a neighbor?!

Pet Smart Problem in Oxnard California

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "Another PetSmart Horror Story":
Please BEWARE of PetSmart in Oxnard, Ca. ( store # 136 )
On Sunday morning ( 3-11 ) around 10:30 in the morning I dropped off my little dog at the PetSmart on Oxnard Blvd. ( store # 136 ) for a grooming.
A young goofy looking guy took wrote me up. He asked if the phone number they had on file was a good number to reach me at and I told him NO, that was my wifes number and gave him my cell number. He wrote it down, took my dog and said she would be ready around 3:30 .....I left.
Around 2:30 in the afternoon he called me and told me there had been a accident and the had to take my dog to the vet ( Banfield in the same building ) because he had cut her "dew claw" and it would require a minor surgery with stitches. ( I asked him why this would require an additional 3 hours and he told me they were very busy ). I was a little upset and worried about my dog but hey, accidents happen right ?
My wife got off work at 4:30 pm and called me to tell me PetSmart had just called and our dog was ready to be picked up. I told her what had happened and she went straight over picked her up and brought her home.
I went out and took our dog out of the car. She had a big bandage on her hind leg / foot and a plastic "cone" around her neck. I took her out of the car and let her down in the grass to see if she needed to go potty. Her foot did not seem to bother her that much but I knew something was wrong. She was lethargic and shaking. I reached down to pick her up and accidentally touched her tail. she reached around and tried to bite me! We noticed she was hiding her tail and would not wag it at all...clearly something was very wrong.
The next day the vet called to see how our dog was doing. I expressed my concern about her tail and she told me they would look at it on Wednesday at her "recheck" appointment.
When we took her back the vet told us her leg was healing well. She then did an x ray on her tail and found it to be BROKEN in the middle.
No wonder our little dog was shaking, she was in PAIN !
Did this happen at the groomers or at the vet ? Was it an accident or abuse ? I don't know. All I DO KNOW is that when I took my dog there she DID NOT have a broken tail. Why did they not tell us about this ? How could someone break a dogs tail and not know it ?
Also, when my wife got home she had a few messages on her phone from Banfield calling for authorization for anesthesia for the surgery. ( my wife cannot take her phone into her work and needless to say did not answer ) ...so they went ahead and did the surgery under local anesthesia . These bozo's JUST CALLED ME at 2:30 on MY PHONE to tell me what happened .....Talk about incompetent !
If you are thinking about taking your beloved pet to these people I would think twice. All I wanted to do is go spend a little of my hard earned money with them and get my dog a hair cut. NEVER AGAIN !

Is That Duck Really Dead?

A woman brought a very limp duck into a veterinary
surgeon. As she laid her pet on the table, the vet
pulled out his stethoscope and listened to the bird's
chest.
After a moment or two, the vet shook his head and
sadly said, "I'm sorry, your duck, Cuddles, has
passed away."
The distressed woman wailed, "Are you sure?"
"Yes, I am sure. Your duck is dead," replied the
vet..
"How can you be so sure?" she protested. "I mean
you haven't done any testing on him or anything.
He might just be in a coma or something."
The vet rolled his eyes, turned around and left the
room. He returned a few minutes later with a black
Labrador Retriever. As the duck's owner looked on
in amazement, the dog stood on his hind legs, put his
front paws on the examination table and sniffed the
duck from top to bottom. He then looked up at the
vet with sad eyes and shook his head.
The vet patted the dog on the head and took it out
of the room. A few minutes later he returned with
a cat. The cat jumped on the table and also delicately
sniffed the bird from head to foot. The cat sat back
on its haunches, shook its head, meowed softly and
strolled out of the room.
The vet looked at the woman and said, "I'm sorry,
but as I said, this is most definitely, 100% certifiably,
a dead duck."
The vet turned to his computer terminal, hit a few keys
and produced a bill, which he handed to the woman..
The duck's owner, still in shock, took the bill. "$150!"
she cried, "$150 just to tell me my duck is dead!"
The vet shrugged, "I'm sorry. If you had just taken my
word for it, the bill would have been $20, but with the
Lab Report and the Cat Scan, it's now $150."

SOJOS Homemade Food - Made Easy

A few weeks ago, I received some samples of this dog food - and had never heard of it. SOJOS. It's a powder sort of food - Simply add meat and water to the natural food blend and you've got a fresh, homemade pet food in minutes.
"Our foods offer the superior nutrition of naturally-occurring vitamins, minerals and enzymes that you can't get from a cooked, processed pellet. No preservatives. Nothing artificial. Just the finest, all-natural, ingredients.
We also bake fresh batches of all-natural dog treats daily."
Trixie seems to like Turkey. Made with USDA freeze-dried raw turkey, you simply add water to this wholesome, grain-free mix for a fresh, homemade dog food in a snap! It's all natural. Nothing funky and no fillers. It's fit for human consumption. - Except it is unseasoned for the human palate. - They make a beef - or just a plain formula that you can add your own meat too.
When I first saw the price - I though it seemed expensive. But a little goes a long way - especially with small dogs. And it the healthiest food I have ever found!
I was told from one Yorkie owner, that her dogs coat improved and her eyes stopped that tearing/running, that some dogs experience.
I have to tell you, it has made her poop a LOT and more regular!
So if you want to give your dog healthy home-cooked food - THIS IS IT!
SOJOS from Sojourner Farms.

Yorkie Killed While Protecting Owner in San Jose

Police in San Jose Need Help Finding Men Who Stomped Mini-Yorkie To Death

Police are looking for several men who stomped to death a 4-pound mini-Yorkshire terrier that was trying to protect its owner from an attack in San Jose over the weekend, authorities said Monday.
The dog's owner said he was walking the 6-year-old dog, Shadow, at Winchester Boulevard and Colonial Way about 2 p.m. Saturday when three men approached and asked if he was a gang member.
The owner, a 32-year-old floor installer who asked that his name be withheld for safety reasons, said he had denied gang involvement, but the men attacked him anyway.
The owner said he had tried to run with his dog but tripped, and the men began kicking and hitting him. He heard the small dog barking and trying to protect him.
The men beat him for about a minute. Once they ran off, the man said, he looked at his dog and "just saw a big puddle of blood."
The dog died on the way to a veterinary hospital, he said.
"He wasn't making too many noises, but I could see his eyes and that's when I broke down," he said. "They were still blinking a little bit, but so much blood was leaking out of him. I knew the moment he died in my arms. I heard him take his last breath and just kept thinking, 'There's no way this is happening.' "
Capt. Jay Terrado of the San Jose Animal Care and Services agency said necropsy reports showed that Shadow died of head trauma and suffered injuries "consistent with being stomped and kicked."
"You can imagine the type of damage a full-grown adult can do to a small dog," Terrado said.
Witnesses told police that the men had been waving signs for a nearby car wash before the attack, Terrado said. The car wash was a fundraiser for the family of Ramon Ruano, a 20-year-old who was shot and killed Feb. 5.
Terrado said investigators were looking at all possible motives, not just a gang attack.
The owner said he had been wearing a red sweater and a red Boston Red Sox hat, which may have been a rival gang's colors, but that he is not part of any gang.
"I've lived at my place for six years, and I've never had any problems," he said. "I've known that there were gangs around here, but come on - you see me walking a little mini-Yorkie down the street, you're not going to think, 'Oh hey, look at this guy.' "
He took care of Shadow since he was a puppy, he said. He named him Shadow because the small dog followed him everywhere - "he was my shadow."
"He was so small," he said. "He was just a little baby dog. I can't believe it."
