Schmitty and Pudge in New York City!

Two famous Yorkies, Schmitty and Pudge, invite you to tour New York City. Follow the adventures of these delightful dogs as they visit all of New York City's famous landmarks. Starting at Grant's Tomb in Harlem, they head south to visit the Seinfeld gang's favorite restaurant and then rest their tired paws with a carriage ride through Central Park.

After a hot dog at Gray's Papaya the pooches bump into Regis on their way down to Times Square to meet the Naked Cowboy before catching a matinee on Broadway. Then it's off to the Empire State Building for a dog's eye view of Manhattan. A taxi to Tiffany's for a little retail therapy is the perfect prelude to an afternoon massage. Nothing caps off a day in NYC better than sitting in Battery Park watching the sunset over the Statue of Liberty.

So when you come to visit NYC keep an eye out for Schmitty and Pudge.

Summer in Chicago with Miss Trixie Lee Deluxe

It is the first week of June, and it is 52 degrees today in Chicago!
What happened to Global Warming?!
In May, I did get out to the Chicago beach a couple times,
but now I can't go to the beach until after Labor Day.
Well, this past weekend was nice and warm and sunny, and my dad's took me out to their favorite pub and restaurant ROSCOES. They have a patio in the summer and I can go there and sit with adults. The weather was nice, but today it's darn right cold again!
I am from Missouri!

Doug Percival and Sammy, the oldest Yorkie around!

Yorkshire terrier Sammy is 23-years-old which makes him two
years older than the current canine world record holder.

The pensioner pooch has had half his teeth out and can barely see or hear.
But owner Doug Percival, 73, has only had to take him to the vets
ONCE since he got him as a two-year-old pup.

He puts his longevity down to them looking after each other and
twice-weekly treats from the fish and chip shop.

COCOA SHELL MULCH CAN BE TOXIC TO DOGS AND CATS

Every Spring, emails start circulating making claims that cocoa mulch, which contains the chemical theobromine, can be lethal to dogs and cats.
This is NOT an Urban Myth, and while only a few reported cases have ever been reported, the warning should not be taken lightly.

"Over the weekend the doting owner of two young lab mixes purchased Cocoa Mulch from Target to use in their garden. They loved the way it smelled and it was advertised to keep cats away from their garden. Their dog Calypso decided that the mulch smelled good enough to eat and devoured a large helping. She vomited a few times which was typical when she eats something new but wasn't acting lethargic in any way. The next day, Mom woke up and took Calypso out for her morning walk .
Half way through the walk, she had a seizure and died instantly."

Although the mulch had NO warnings printed on the label, upon further investigation on the company's website, this product is HIGHLY toxic to dogs and cats.

Cocoa Mulch is manufactured by Hershey's, and they claim that 'It is true that studies have shown that 50% of the dogs that eat Cocoa Mulch can suffer physical harm to a variety of degrees (depending on each individual dog). However, 98% of all dogs won't eat it.'

This Snopes site gives the following information:
Cocoa Mulch, which is sold by Home Depot, Target, Foreman's Garden Supply and other Garden supply stores, contains a lethal ingredient called ' Theobromine'. It is lethal to dogs and cats. It smells like chocolate and it really attracts dogs. They will ingest this stuff and die. Several deaths already occurred in the last 2-3 weeks. Theobromine is in all chocolate, especially dark or baker's chocolate which is toxic to dogs. Cocoa bean shells contain potentially toxic quantities of th eobromine, a xanthine compound similar in effects to caffeine and theophylline. A dog that ingested a lethal quantity of garden mulch made from cacao bean shells developed severe convulsions and died 17 hours later. Analysis of the stomach contents and the ingested cacao bean shells revealed the presence of lethal amounts of theobromine. "

Yorkie and Cats

Someone sent these photos today of a kitten and a parakeet playing
together! How cute is that?!
Our cat was 12 when Little Trixie came along.
The Yorkie ADORES the cat and wants to play so badly,
but the cat has always ran from her. A couple months ago, the cat
allowed Trixie to catch her. And now the cat is amused by Trixie
and will sometimes play with her.
Hopefully, as Trixie calms down a bit, I hope they will come to love each other
and sleep together like best buddies!

Miniature Yorkies Rule!

OK - So All Dogs Rule!

Check this out -

Everyone’s heard a zany pampered-pet story: The dog who only eats home-delivered organic meals, the cat who gets an $18,000 kidney transplants, the pet-sitter who draws a six-figure salary thanks to a neighborhood full of obsessed pet owners. But what does all of this mean, and why is it happening now? Americans spend over $40 billion a year on pets, twice what they did a decade earlier. But the dollars are only one small part of the vast changes in America’s pet kingdom: Dogs have moved from backyard doghouses to their owners’ beds; veterinary practices have evolved from neutering and de-worming factories to corporate medical chains that offer arthroscopic surgeries and prescribe animal antidepressants; simple tennis-ball chew toys have given way to high-tech learning gadgets that promise to entertain a nation of latch-key pets. Man’s best friend has become America’s ersatz child.

One Nation Under Dog is a voyage through this new world of American pet-keeping—the absurd, the touching, the horrifying, and the comic. I visited with a Chihuahua social networking group in New York, reported on pitched political battles over dog-friendly laws in San Francisco, watched lawyers wrangle over pet lawsuits in Chicago and sat in on pet-loss bereavement sessions in Philadelphia. It turns out the pet boom is about more than plain old over-the-top consumerism. Take a peek at how your pet’s life has changed and you’ll find the modern history of our society—one that covers everything from our ideas about family to our growing social stratification to our long commutes to our endless technological wizardry. Not to mention culture wars, nutritional neuroses, and the rise of globalism.
And, okay, some over-the-top consumerism, too.

One Nation Under Dog shows just how contemporary pets explain contemporary America. And with tail-wagging guides like Jade the Rottweiler, Ben the Beagle, and Murphy the Saint Bernard, the journey through modern society is also a lot of fun.
Author Michael Schaffer has a great website I recommend everyone to visit, there you'll find a link to purchase his book, "One Nation Under Dog,"
read his own blog, or post your own pet story.
You can even upload a picture of your pet
and share it with the world.

Giving Your Dog or Cat Wheat Chex for Fiber

Last year, our cat was having issues with her glands not expressing properly.
We took her to vet, who charged us $150.
One month later, same problem. But not as severe. $100.
The next month, we took her in before the problem occured and paid $35. And we did the same for 2 months following. Cha-Ching. Cha-Ching. We asked the vet, what we could do? The vet offered no real answers. She said if we didn't want to bring the cat in every month, there was a surgey for $1500 they could perform!

A few weeks later I met a vet in a social setting who was visiting from another country. He suggested giving the cat some wheat chex to her diet - he said the tiny amount of fiber should keep her glans fine. And guess what? It worked! So now she gets a few little wheat chex every day and she loves them! Why didn't my vet suggest this simple soultion?
Because most doctors and vets, I believe, are all about making money. Why should they suggest a do-it-yourself fix for a couple dollars, when they can make money off you?!

Anyway, fast foward 1 year. We got Trixie! She loves Wheat Chex too, and keeps snatching them from the cat's bowl. So now she too, gets a few of the little treats each day in her food.
Both animals have had no problems and enjoy them!

"Desperate Housewives" Star Kyle MacLachlan and His Dogs, Mookie and Sam

Kyle MacLachlan may be famous for his roles in Twin Peaks, Sex and The City and Desperate Housewives, but on the web it's the actor's canine companions who lap up the limelight.

The thespian's two tail waggers-- a 9-year-old Jack Russell Terrier and a 6-year-old exotic Yorkshire Terrier/Chihuahua (is that a Chorkie?)-- are the stars of The Adventures of Mookie and Sam, a website which offers a glimpse into the lives of the pair of "pup"arazzi magnets.

Do We Pick Our Dogs? or Do They Pick Us?

While on vacation last week, I got caught up on some reading.
I read Yorkie Doodle Dandy: Or, the Other Woman Was a Real Dog
It's a true story of a famous Yorkie during World War II.
In the book, this soldier, Bill Wynne, "finds and saves" a helpless
Yorkie. But by the end of the book, he comes to the conclusion that in fact,
the dog came into his life for a purpose and was meant to change
his life. I have always believed, people come into our lives
I am sure the same is true
for dogs. We do not pick them, they pick us. Or at least, they make us pick them.
There is a reason, we end up with the pets, we end up with!

When a friend of ours decided to give us a Yorkie for Christmas,

we selected "the perfect" Yorkie and fell in love on the Internet!

Just days before the delivery, we were informed he could not be shipped. He was too small and not eating enough. We were heartbroken. But within a couple hours, another Yorkie showed up online and we fell in love with her. Seems her buyer had backed out of the deal, so she

was now available and we grabbed her up. And what a precious pup she turned out to be!

She brings so much joy to our lives! And I am sure, she was THE ONE meant for us.

If you have a chance, stop by the YORKIE DOODLE DANDY site.
And if you love dogs and Yorkies, you will enjoy his book!

The Unconditional Love You Get From Your Dog

How many people do you have in your life,
that love you unconditionally?
A dog does not care if you are rich or poor...
if you are a supermodel, or wear designer clothes!
A dog does not care if you are black or white....
A dog wants to be loved - and will give love in return.

Dogs serve us sometimes without asking or waiting not seeking any benefits for themselves. When you have just arrived home from work, they are ready and patiently waiting for you at the door so they can greet you right away. Your dog might wait for you to bend down so he can lick your face to give you his kisses or your dog might even jump up to you to show how much he missed you.

Dogs not only provide us with their unconditional love but at times they can act as our own protectors. Your dog might guard your house when you are asleep or away. If we are asleep, they might bark at the slightest noise that they hear and wait close by the door to make sure nobody enters that is not supposed to.

Dogs also show unconditional love when we get upset with them. They might put their head down and realize what they did was wrong. They might then come up to you and lick your face or give you their paw to show you that they are extremely sorry for what they have done. Maybe your dog is lying in your favorite chair or sitting area that you would like to sit in. You ask him or her to move and your dog obediently does what you want them to. They move to another resting area without any complaint whatsoever.

We might call their name and our dog comes running up to us, wagging his or her tail wildly. They are showing us how much they care and how happy they are that you are giving them some kind of attention.

Sometimes we might just dismiss or take for granted the unconditional love that our dog shows us constantly. We should always be aware of it and show how much we do appreciate it because one day our dog might not be there waiting for us at the door because God has decided to take him or her. You do not want to have any regrets so take the time out to show your dog the unconditional love that he or she has shown you.
My spirited little fluff ball shares my life and
my fortunes, and licks my tears if I feel misfortune.
Her very presence turns my serious face into a smile!
Treat your dog kindly and shower him with love and affection!

Inspiring New Book about Dog Love - Coming Soon!

This past week, my dads went on a trip to Barcelona.
And I couldn't go.

So I had to stay with some strangers. They are friends
of my dads, Jeff and Andrea Maziarek are big dog lovers!
So I took a liking to them right away and they liked me too.
(How could they resist, right??)

Jeff let me sit on his lap while he worked,
and at night, I curled into a ball between them on their pillows,
but especially love sleeping half on Andrea's
head. I missed my dads bunches but my babysitters
gave me so much love, play and attention, it was OK being away from them.

They had lost BOTH of their dogs in the recent past,
due to health problems. And when I sniffed around their house
I could really sense them.

Jeff has been busy writing a book. (his second)
About his dog CODI. An Inspiring and heartwarming
story about an Amazing Best Friend.
It's about their awesome dog with a great personality
who really had a profound impact on this family.
The story presents Codi as much more than merely
a source of entertainment and affection, but as an actual
sentient being that has far deeper insight into
the lives of "her humans" than commonly thought.
He is in the process of publishing his book,
it's not out yet. But he has set up website with some
samplings of his story called Codi's Journey!

Stop by and get a preview!
Jeff also runs another site called
it features inspirational writings from authors
around the world. You can even subscribe to get free
daily inspirational messages emailed to you!

This is me, on their couch!

Thanks Jeff and Andrea for taking care of me!

I hope I can come back again, soon!

Love, Trixie.

Manuel Almunia talks Miniature Yorkie for a Walk

A man and his little dog!
With a successful job in one of Europe's biggest football teams and a stunning wife on his arm, Manuel Almunia clearly doesn't feel insecure about his masculinity.

Away from the macho world of the football pitch, the Arsenal goalkeeper certainly looked comfortable strolling down the street walking his new puppy.

There was no prizes for guessing the sex of the Almunias' young Yorkshire Terrier, who was dressed in a pink coat and matching lead.

Looking rather flamboyant in a red, blue and white quilted jacket and jeans, the couple was
Spotted near their home in Abbots Langley, Herts, the couple took their puppy out for a walk while popping out for a few groceries.

Happy Valentines Day!

This is my second Valentines Day!
YIPPEE!

Tigger (the cat) - he's been around - he's kind of old.
About 16 cat years I think!
And I know I terrorize him! But he is FINALLY
starting to like me, after 16 months of living together!
I LOVE TIGGER! -Tigger is about
laying around and sleeping! I have energy!
And run, run, run!

xoxoxox Trixie

Scientists, veterinarians and dog owners have long questioned the
relationship between man and his best friend. Even philosophers
have ventured opinions on the idea: Plato described dogs as
"lovers of learning" and Voltaire refuted Descartes' theory
that dogs were merely unintelligent machines.

The idea that dogs feel emotions, specifically love, is debatable.
Though older schools of scientific thought refuted the
notion that dogs had human-like feelings, some researchers
today believe the subject deserves more attention.

Read the article!

Their loyalty is unconditional --
much like that between a parent and child,
that's for sure!

So, are those "puppy dog eyes" signaling true
love or a manipulation to get dog biscuits out of you?

What do you think???

Another PetSmart Horror Story

Please know, that I am not trying to bash PetSmart.
As a publisher, I interact with many people
and hear a lot of their stories.
I can not judge. I just pass on the stories
and you, the consumer will have to judge.
And if PetSmart wants to answer to all these
allegations, I will gladly run their response as well.
This came in today, from a former employee...

My heart breaks for each one of you who has lost your pet do to understaffed, undertrained people at Petsmart. More importantly and more tragic,
my heart breaks for the animals who have no control over their situation.

These animals are taken to Petsmart, where they are forced to indure cruel and inhumane treatement,(all for the almighty dollar),they get injured and spend their last moments suffering and more than ever needing the love and comfort of the pet parent.this business is not about the comfort or safety of the animals. I know because I worked for Petsmart in Dublin California, for about 5 weeks in June 2008.

They take in as many animals as they can rush them through the bath and groom as fast as they can so that they can make as much money as they can. I am an animal lover and donate much time to rescue and fund raising for certain groups. I resigned from Petsmart because I saw animals get hit because they would not move or get into the kennel, I saw them dragged and the day that I quit I saw an unattended dog jump out of the wash tub hanging from the leash restraint attached to the wall.

The bather just pulled the dog up by the leash and put it in the kennel while scolding the dog for jumping out. I was on the floor with another animal and could not get up in time to rescue. I secured the animal I was working with and went to check on the dog. It was just frozen with fear. I went to report this to the Assistant Manager, and I shared what abuse I had witnessed in the past 2 weeks. I told her I was quitting because I could not stand to see this.

Places like this take in too many animals and tie them up all over in a very small room where the stressed and afraid animals can and do attack other animals. The animals are left tied and unattended (even though the rules say this can't be done). Stressed and mistreated animals many times would throw up and have loose stools for hours, and the owners are not called or told about the events. Instead they say the animal did fine and they talk all sweet and cutesy to your animal while you are there.

When I left I informed all the animal groups I work with and continue to tell every animal owner that I meet. If they must take their animal to be groomed they need to find a caring compassionate person who does grooming, not a company
that's just trying to make lots of money.

Remember too that the worst time for grooming is during holidays when many people want the animal all cleaned up and pretty. These places don't have occupancy requirements so they just keep taking in more animals and they tie them all over. It is very unsafe. Please use this tragedy to do something good for your loved one and all other animals
so that they will not suffer the same fate.

Yorkie Farts!

CUTE & INNOCENT STINKER!

Our 1.5 year old started farting 2 days ago!

IT CAN CLEAR A ROOM!
Her diet has been same...
she has eaten nothing unusual...
She farts while sleeeping....
Usually farts between 3pm - 10pm...

It's the strangest thing.
So I looked online and found this

It's the funniest thing!
Some Yorkies have loud farts....
some have silent killers....
some fart in the car....
some fart while sleeping!
Anyone else have this problem?

Should I consider changing her diet?
She has eaten the same brand (Royal Canin for Yorkies)
since birth. I don't know what to do!

HELP!

Yorkies Say DON'T BE A HATER! With Anita Bryant Shirts from James Anthony Apparel

Pets are a wonderful source of love!

For many people, their dogs are their best friends.

Pets love unconditionally.

Much like children, they know no prejudice, no hate,

they don't judge people based on race, religion

or sexual orientation.

Why can't the whole world be like that?!

A new friend of ours, James Anthony Apparel presents an artistic revival of the popular “ANITA SUCKS FRUITS” Tshirt of the late 70’s, developed to counter Anita Bryant’s hateful campaign of hatred towards the LGBT community and equal rights

(think this is ancient history, think again).

The updated version of this historic image is printed on a 100% Cotton shirt with Ms. Bryant’s freshly PIED face on the back and the words “ANITA SUCKS FRUITS” on the front angled on the waistline. All inks used are non-toxic and cured to avoid fading or running of colors/imagery. The proceeds of the sale of this shirt go to the LGBT Community Center in

New York City and the Human Rights Campaign.

*James Anthony Apparel offers Men's, Women's, Children's and Baby Clothing featuring hand printed illustrations from the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries! We specialize in large screen images and intense ink colors! Reintroducing the fine art of line drawings, etching, woodcuts and early ink illustration to a new generation of fashion conscience- art enthusiasts.

How Much Would You Pay to Replace Your Dog?

Would you pay $150,000 to duplicate
your dog??

First, who has that kind of cash to just throw around?!

After all, cloned animals or people are not the real thing, no matter how much they look like the source material. Nothing can't replace the original. But even if they were able to clone them complete with memory and personality, aren't there enough amazing dogs in the world to adopt?

Edgar and Nina Otto—Florida   - who have nine other dogs, 10 cats, six sheep and four parrots in West Boca (no kidding)—thought otherwise. That's why they paid that much cash to clone Lancelot—their beloved Labrador—who died from cancer. A company called BioArts International—partnering with South Korean researcher Dr Hwang Woo-suk—created Lancelot Encore, which is the actual name of Lancelot 2.0.

Or better said, Lancelot 1.0 Remastered.

Woo-suk took the genetic material from the original Lancelot—which was extracted when the couple learnt he had cancer—and replaced the genetic material of an egg from a Korean breed similar to the Labrador. After implanting it into a surrogate mother, the cloned Lancelot was born. After that, he was shipped to Miami International, where he became the first single-birth commercial dog clone ever in the United States, according to his parents.

According to Edgard and Nina, he's exactly like the real thing!

Yorkie Rescue

You have got to love the Internet!
It connects us all together!
25 years ago, it was next to impossible
to reach out to others with similar interests.

I was on FLICKR the other day and discovered
several groups for Yorkies! And all these great photos
shot by Janice from the
NorthEastern Yorkie Rescue / Rescue Me!

They have SO MANY Yorkies that need a
good caring home. Rescue Me is a 501c3 non-profit organization
dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of the
Yorkshire Terrier breed. "We are a small group of rescue
buddies who came to know one another through one
common interest - saving the lives of dogs. "

If you are considering a Yorkie, PLEASE
consider a rescue. While it is hard to find a "puppy" to adopt,
there are MANY dogs that are young.
Yorkies can live to be 15 or even 20!

There are nearly 2 dozen ADORABLE Yorkies
waiting right now at this rescue alone.
They primarily adopt to MD, PA, NJ, DE
and parts of NY, CT and VA.
