My mom calls me Misa and her roommate calls me Minnie and depending who you ask they call me Minnie Misa or Misa Minnie! And thats how i got my blog name! We need as much help as we can get in remembering.
Recently,
After a month long of receiving and organizing boxes coming from all over the USA (and even a few from out of the country) Misa Minnie and the Owned by Yorkie girls went to visit their friends at Project Hope Alliance. They collected items for the entire month of March 2014 accumulating over 3000 items sent to them by their supportive fans and friends. Special thanks to everyone that participated in our Drive and to our wonderful friends that helped on delivery day!

Fun Facts about Yorkshire Terriers
Small. Fluffy. Adorable.Loveable. Precious. Your Best Friend!
American Kennel Club has five fun facts about this tiny breed with a big personality.
Here's what say:
Smoky the Yorkshire Terrier was quite the hero during World War II.
The little fluff ball helped save the lives of soldiers during the war
by carrying communications wires through an underground tunnel. Here's what say:
Fact 1: Loyalty is No. 1 With This Breed
German Shepherds are loyal, we know, and Labs and Golden Retrievers, sure but Yorkies? In fact, Yorkshire Terriers are known for their incredible loyalty to their owners, preferring to stay close by their owner's side at all times.Fact 2: They Ran With the Rats!
Yorkshire Terriers were actually originally used for a not-so-glamorous purpose catching rats in clothing mills in the nineteenth century.Fact 3: A Yorkie Was a War Hero
Fact 4: They Didn't Become Yorkshire Terriers Until 1870
The Yorkie made its debut in England in 1861 as a "broken-haired Scotch Terrier." It wasn't until 1870, when a reporter stated, "they ought no longer to be called Scotch Terriers, but Yorkshire Terriers, for having been so improved here," that the name Yorkshire Terrier actually stuck.Fact 5: Their Grouping Doesn't Become Their Personality
Don't be fooled because the Yorkie is part of the Toy Group this breed is by nature very brave, determined and energetic. They have big personalities and make great family pets.Monday, April 14, 2014

Take Your Dog with you for Emotional Support
I always feel bad leaving my dog at home. IN the summer she is not allowed to go to the beach with us Memorial day thru Labor Day. She can not go to most stores with us and most hotels don't want her. NOW, THAT IS CHANGING! I filed the paperwork and paid a small fee to have her deemed an Emotional Support animal.
There are two federal laws which grant special rights to owners of Emotional Support Animal:
- The Fair Housing Amendments Act of 1988 (42 USC 3601, et seq.) allows you to live / stay anywhere you like without pet fees. Any home, any lodging – even ones that specifically prohibit Dogs.
- The Air Carrier Access Act allows you to travel on any airline without paying any pet fees and your Emotional Support Animal is allowed to accompany you into the cabin.

Don't Let Your Yorkshire Terrier Be Stolen
To protect your pet:
• Don’t let your dog off-leash. Keeping it close reduces the likelihood that it will wander off and catch the attention of thieves.
• Don’t leave your dog unattended in your yard, especially if your fenced-in yard is visible from the street.
• If strangers approach you to admire your dog during walks, don’t answer questions about how much the dog cost or give details about where you live.
• Never leave your dog in an unattended car, even if it’s locked.
• Don’t tie your dog outside a store. Patronize only dog-friendly retailers, or leave the dog at home.
• Protect your dog with microchip identification and keep your contact information current with your microchip-recovery service provider.
• If your dog is stolen, file a police report and ask to have the microchip serial number and the dog’s description posted in the “stolen article” category on the National Crime Information Center.
• Keep current photos (profile and headshot) of your dog so you can distribute them immediately if your pet disappears.
• Buy from reputable dealers or rescue groups. If the dog is advertised as purebred, ask for the AKC litter registration number and call AKC customer service at 919-233-9767 to verify registration.

Life Magazine Yorkshire Terrier Portraits
In November 1964, LIFE magazine noted that “a small dog with a sweeping hairdo and a peppery disposition” was pushing the poodle aside as the elegant canine accessory-of-the-moment. LIFE also noted that the small, dynamic Yorkie — for it was none other than the Yorkshire Terrier to which the magazine devoted a multi-page feature — “is no lap dog. It has the dash and spirit of all terriers and is a better ratter than most cats.”

Dogs Who Love Warm Laundry
And when I take a shower and she watches and waits until I lay the wet towel on the floor and she rolls all over it rubbing her face and any part of her body she can rub on it.
AND WHAT ABOUT SHOES? She loves to stick her head inside my shoes!

Smart Yorkshire Terrier Saves Woman
I love these stories!
LOUIE (above) pressed his tiny paw on an emergency button on the floor and
called for help by yelping into the intercom, after his owner suffered a
suspected heart attack.
“He’s my light and day. He’s always beside me whenever I need him.
He’s more than just a dog” says owner JUDITH.
Last year he earned himself an animal bravery award from veterinary charity PDSA for raising the alarm when Judith slipped after stepping out of the shower.

Teeth Cleaning and Yorkies
Trixie turned 6 this year - and I have to admit - we have not done a great job brushing her teeth. Like many dogs, they just don't like it. So we tried things like Plaque sprays and special toothpastes - but it was time finally for a cleaning. And I am always afraid to have a tiny dog put under.
But she survived and bounced back! And we are determined to NOT let her teeth get dirty from here on out. Our vet highly recommended this line called Clenz-a-dent. Clenz-A-Dent PlaqueOff contains the seaweed Ascophyllum nodosum which is a natural agent that reduces the formation of dental plaque, tartar [calculus] and bad breath. You can add it to their food - or their water - so we're trying that for now - I will let you know how it works.
(You can get it discounted at Amazon - cheaper than the vet!~)

Tipping Dog Groomers and Dog Salon Owners
Pet Groomers: To Tip or Not to Tip?
I used to be a waiter - and back then, made about $3 an hour. Most waiters and waitresses depend on tips to survive. Banquet waiters and hotel waiters usually, make a fair wage - do you tip them? At hotel parties, I don't tip if they pour a glass of wine like they are supposed to. I DO TIP when they do something special or go above and beyond their normal duties.
Do you tip your hairdresser? What if they own the salon and is keeping the whole $50 - do you still tip him? Some people feel since the employee is getting paid less, they should get a tip. So many questions about tipping. I found this great article online about tipping dog groomers, written by the owner of a grooming salon.
He says, " “Tips are not necessary, but they are appreciated. I leave the amount, if any, up to the customer." And just because he is charging $40 for a dogs cut - does not mean he gets to keep it all. He has expenses and overhead. Read the article here - it's very interesting!
